Rodeo

We went to our first ever Rodeo tonight.  We were all super excited.  We went to the Salt Lake County Fair Rodeo.  Everyone had a cowboy hat and cowboy boots.  We bought Mateo's hat and boots this morning and he only has taken them off to nap and that's really it.
We left to go pick up Papi and get to the fair early.  However, by the time we got there, there wasn't much time to do the fair part, just the rodeo.  We went straight over to sign Isabel and Lili up for the 'mutton bustin' (where the kids ride a sheep bareback).  I started filling out the paper work and we found out that Isabel was over the 50 pound weight limit.  She cried so hard that the man asked her to help him be the judge for the mutton bustin.  That made her a bit happier but she was still pretty bummed.  Lili was all excited to be signed up.  Both girls practiced on Papi for the mutton bustin.  It was hilarious, I really should have videoed it.
We found our seats and then the announcer asked all the kids doing mutton bustin to go on the other side of the arena to get ready.  So Papi took Lili and Isabel, and of course, Mateo had to go because he is absolutely glued to Papi.
It was pretty cool watching all the cowboys ride the horses bareback and then the mutton bustin was hilarious.  They had 3 sections of it.  Lili was in the 2nd one.  It came time for her to do it.  Papi and Lili practiced with Lili having her arms around Papi's neck.  Well, there were several kids that went on backwards, where their legs were around the sheep's neck and they stayed on a long time.  So Lili wanted to try that way.  Papi put her on that way and the gate opened and out came the sheep with Lili.  Poor thing didn't last long and the sheep stepped on her and she cried pretty hard.  Her score was 32.
Papi and the girls came back over to sit with us.  Lili climbed on my lap and just sobbed her eyes out.  It was really cute.  She showed me where the sheep stepped on her arm.  She kept telling me that she wasn't ready and they opened the gate and the sheep ran out.  She was so upset that she wasn't ready and they made her go still.  She wasn't comfortable going backwards so Papi was about to switch her around and that's when they opened the gate and the sheep ran out.
We watched the mini bull riders, ages 9-12.  That was really cool too.  Then we got to see more mutton bustin and then the women barrel racing and then the bull riders.  It was a really fun to watch.
Oh, I almost forgot.  During the last mutton bustin, a boy rode backwards and stayed on a long time and his sheep ran all over the place.  Lili turns to Papi and says, "See, I wasn't ready.  If I was ready I could hold on a long time like that boy!"    She'll be ready for next year she said.  hahahaha
After the rodeo was over, they asked all the kids that participated in the mutton bustin to come back to the arena to receive their blue ribbons.  So off they went again.  Lili was so proud of her self.  All in all, we will be faithful rodeo goers for the rest of our lives I bet!  It was a blast to watch and have the kids be a part of it too.  YEEEEE HAAAAAA!
