Days Farm

Yesterday, Enrique had off and so we went to the farm and picked and picked and picked.  We picked for 2 hours 7 boxes of vegetables.  I forgot to take photos there, which would have been great because we were all nasty!  Then we ran to Walmart to get the lids for bottling and I went in all by myself (don't forget we were all nasty from the mud), needless to say, I got a lot of stares.

We got home and Enrique and the girls started husking the tomatillos and cleaning them (in the pool) so we could make the salsa roja and salsa verde.  From the time we got home until the salsas were done I think it was 2 hours.  It went so fast.

So then we decided to do the other salsa, which uses tons of tomatoes.  So once again, the girls are cleaning the tomatoes in the pool, I'm grabbing them to put in the boiling water to get the skin off.  I peeled them and diced them while Enrique was chopping the green peppers, chilaca peppers, jalapeno peppers, and onions.  The chopping for this salsa took us between 3-4 hours.  We were so done!  Once we got it in the pot to boil for 2 hours, we left to grab pizza, feed the kids and then they went to bed.

So we planned on the salsa making 20-22 quarts and it only made 14 quarts.  I wasn't very happy.  It took us forever and it didn't give us as much as we expected.  So we were super stinky and exhausted by the end of the day.  Lots more canning ahead too!

We canned inside the house with our camp chef stove.  We have now come to know we are lucky none of us died!  Apparently that is a really bad thing to do because of the carbon monoxide.  So we won't ever use it in the house again, to say the least!
